Bedford, Indiana #ThursdayDoors

Friend and fellow writer Mildred Perkins sent me another door from her peregrinations. This one is from Bedford, Indiana. Bedford, incorporated in 1864, is the Limestone Capital of the World. Limestone from its quarries helped build the Empire State Building and The Pentagon. If you’ve ever seen one of my favorite movies, Breaking Away, you’ve seen kids participating in the dangerous sport of quarry diving there.

There must be something about Bedford that makes the boys there want to get far away, because astronauts Kenneth Bowersox and Charles Walker are from there, not to mention Gus Grissom, who comes from nearby Mitchell.

I believe this is a bank. It looks banky. The doors themselves aren’t so hot, but their setting is wonderful.

Lots of points of interest in and around Bedford, including a doll factory, a winery, Indiana’s longest active covered bridge, and a haunted railroad tunnel, just for Dan Antion!

Sounds like a road trip to me!

A WRITING PROMPT BASED ON MY POST: Write about a haunted railroad tunnel.

About

I was born in Louisville, Kentucky, but now live in the woods in southern Indiana. Though I only write fiction, I love to read non-fiction. The more I learn about this world, the more fantastic I see it is.

A haunted railroad tunnel? Oh my, I need to add this to the post-retirement travel list.

I like the entrance. I can only imagine what the original doors must have looked like.

Yes, the surroundings of that door a lovely. “Breaking Away!” We love that movie, especially as my husband is a serious cyclist (3,000+ miles this year even with job and all else.)

Seems like such a slight movie, but it has heart and depth. And so much humor! Glad you like it, too. πŸ™‚

That is a lovely entrance. Nice find Mildred.
Breaking Away was one of my favorites. A delightful little movies from back in the day when the world was a simpler place. I hadn’t thought about it in years. Thanks for jogging that memory πŸ™‚
