We held Janie Day at a different restaurant this month: down the street from our regular place. We decided to try Ramiro’s Mexican restaurant, and it was wonderful! And it had doors!
There were also doors on the way, because we met at Vint and walked the two blocks to the restaurant. UnAmerican of us to walk when I have a perfectly good car, but this was Frankfort Avenue in Louisville, Kentucky, and they’re all pinkos on The Avenue, ya know.
So I took some snappies on the way:
El Mundo is acrossa street from Ramiro’s. Jane and I went in once, and it smelled funky, so we left. But it’s outside is painted purty.
Oh! These things are like Dan‘s Lime Bikes, only they’re motorized scooters. Jane’s brother says authorized peeps pick various ones up and take them home and charge them (for a price, Ugarte, for a price). Coo’!
So then we saw Ramiro’s.
And the door was open.
But we didn’t go in, because porch.
This porch is enclosed when it’s bad weather and not enclosed when it’s good weather. I tried to get a shot of how this is rigged, but shadows.
Of course I eventually had to go in (bladder the size of a peanut). So I got you this:
and this:
and this:
You’re welcome.
The waiter asked if any of us needed to-go boxes. My companions did, but I did not. I said, “Are you familiar with the American expression…” and I snorted like a pig. He was not familiar with it, so we explained it. He laughed and assured me he had seen people eat much more. I left him a big tip.
Thursday Doors is the brainchild of Norm Frampton, photographer extraordinaire. I don’t know whether or not he’s back from vacation. At any rate, visit his web site, enjoy his wonderful photographs, and either follow the link to the host(ess) for this week or click on the blue frog link on Norm’s site. The blue frog link will admit you to a world of doors!
A WRITING PROMPT FROM ME TO YOU: Have a character eat on the porch.

October 4, 2018 at 7:53amThat’s a pretty good collection of doors. I like that you snagged them on the run, and kudos for trying to capture the way the porch is enclosed (I think I get it). Also thanks for the shot of the door hardware – you can never have too much of that stuff.

October 4, 2018 at 10:44amThat’s a fine passel of doors. And a fine meal. The big wooden fish over the doors is cool, too.
Oink, Oink, Oink! They are calling me!

October 4, 2018 at 4:38pmLouisville has some mighty purty doors, doesn’t it? I always find it’s good if restaurants (and other buildings) have doors. Make it hard to get in or our otherwise. 🙂 I had to laugh at the idea of a to-go box so close to your trip to the ladies’ room. Just sayin’…that’s how my mind works sometimes.
Happy Thursday!

October 5, 2018 at 8:32amLovely photos, Marian. The interior colour is so warm and inviting, I love Mexican food – think I’ll make a red bean curry tonight.

October 5, 2018 at 8:35amOops! I meant to say ‘chili’ not ‘curry’ lol. Although I like Indian, too.

October 7, 2018 at 6:46amLooks like a lovely walk, enjoying the quaint buildings and doors. It’s nice to walk, we do a lot of that here in Hong Kong (no car). But I do miss my car sometimes. =) My granny was from near Louisville, Kentucky (I grew up in Fairfield, Ohio. Have a wonderful week ahead.

October 7, 2018 at 3:08pmNice collection! I am pleased with the selections, bit of this and that. We once stopped at KFC, so hungry, on a road trip, and immediately left because HORK it smelled HORK like a grease trap HORK. That smell clung to my nose for many, many miles.

October 8, 2018 at 9:59amComing from Louisville, I’m a grease snob. I love me a good greasy spoon restaurant. But old, rank, overused, burnt, and/or rancid grease…. As you so eloquently and precisely put it: HORK
