Take an Icy Taxi to the Greenway #FridayRecommends

Friday Recommends

I can’t remember who recommended this book to me, but I think it was Cathy Olliffe-Webster, author of GREEN EGGS AND WEEZIE.

The book I mean is Icy Sedgwick‘s THE BLACK DOG & OTHER GOTHIC TALES. Geez, THANKS, CATHY! I oughta make you come down over here from Cold Lake and guard me while I sleep and pat me and go there, there when I have nightmares!

Creepy stories? I’ll tell the world! You like cold chills? You’ll love this book. But you can’t have mine.

There’s been a lot of bad talk about Uber and that other ride-hailing thing — oh, yeay, Lyft — beginning with their taking bread out of the mouths of cabbies’ children. So I thought I’d find out what it costs to take a taxi.

And I found the coolest site! It’s called TaxiFareFinder. If you simply must take Uber or Lyft, you can go to RideGuru for a fare estimate. I haven’t needed a taxi in years, so I can’t vouch for the precision of these estimates, but I love it that these sites exist. Now, somebody’s going to tell me there’s an app for that! That would be so cool!

I can’t remember who told me about the East Coast Greenway. Was it Dan? ANYWAY, I love the idea. It’s kind of like the Appalachian Trail, only with more bathrooms. And ice cream.

The East Coast Greenway connects 15 states, 450 cities and towns, and 3,000 miles of people-powered trails from Maine to Florida —the country’s longest biking and walking route.

I’ll be away at InConjunction in Indianapolis this weekend, but I’m setting up posts to go up in my absence. And, of course, Tipper will be posting for me this Caturday.

A WRITING PROMPT FROM ME TO YOU: Write about a taxi and/or ride-hailing.

About

I was born in Louisville, Kentucky, but now live in the woods in southern Indiana. Though I only write fiction, I love to read non-fiction. The more I learn about this world, the more fantastic I see it is.
