Luchado(o)r and Landfill #ThursdayDoors #WaterfrontGrdns

#4 Daughter the amazing Sara Marian, and her fab partner in crime … er life, Zak, invited me over for an event called Unwin(e)d. Don’t know why they called it that since wine WAS involved.

ANYWAY, Sara and met for lunch at a doorish place first, but the main event was the Unwin(e)d thing at Louisville’s Waterfront Botanical Gardens. Actually, the gardens aren’t there yet, but they will be. There’s a building there, and there’ll soon be gardens around it.

Why did I say “landfill” in the title? Because the gardens will be built on an expired landfill, that’s why. Did you know landfills expire? Apparently, after a landfill is capped with clay, it’s left for decades, and then it can be reused. So they sank pilings down through the fill and into the bedrock and built this gorgeous building on it.

They already rent that building out for weddings, parties, meetings, and what-not.

We had great botanical food by Chef Joe Merchanthouse, like watermelon with feta cheese, walnuts, cucumbers, and basil on it. Also my favorite: rose-flavored white chocolate truffles. And wine. All dry, so me no drink.

We didn’t intend to stay the whole time, from 6-10, but they actually had to ask us to leave. We had such a good time, meeting new people, making new friends. We’ll be back. Hope they know that. It’s the price of excellence.

And there was a Louisville Bats game that ended close to the end of the Gardens’ event, so we got free fireworks!

So Sara and I met at El Taco Luchador for lunch. Luchador, in case you don’t know, is wrestling.

Sara said, “Get two or three tacos; they’re small.” So I got three. Then she ordered, and she only got two! Rat!

I did not eat all of all of them, although they were most delicious.

And there were many doors and doorways.

I would have gladly beamed you half of each taco, since I couldn’t eat that much. Well, maybe I would have eaten all the chicharrone one, because fatback.

Hopefully, this landfill met the standards- without cutting any corners. Otherwise, there will be some methane vents (and fires?) soon to accompany the lovely landscape.

I hope so, too. After 40 years and about 60 holes poked all the way through it, the chances are good that it’s okay.

The colorful tiles are wonderful to see. I forget how cheerful mixed-up colors can be. Thanks for the glimpse into a bit of happiness.

What a fun day! No, I had no idea landfills expire and can be used again for something else. That’s great news!
