The Ex-Hotel #ThursdayDoors @ImaginariumCon

The Imaginarium creative writing festival was the best yet! If you’ve never been, GO! It’s in Louisville, Kentucky, y’all. It has gaming (board and video), cosplay, kid minding/entertaining by Motley Kids, film screening, panels and workshops on just about everything writing-related, a vendor hall….

Per Bastet attended. We took turns staffing the book selling booth (did quite well, thank you!) and also did panels.

We offered our first-ever room party this year, and it was a roaring success. I forgot to take pictures of the food. ~sigh~ One thing was white chocolate rosewater truffles and one was watermelon salad, so you’ve already seen those, anyway.

But this post is about doors.

The hotel. (cue Psycho music) Last year, it was, in my opinion, substandard. After that round of complaints, they told the convention they were being bought by another company, who was going to do a thorough renovation. Then part of the hotel caught fire. They they said for sure they were renovating; how could they not?

I’m not going into details. I’ll let the pictures speak for themselves. Ghost doors galore.

Our room was in the section with the bricks, not the burny one. On the first floor, which was good, because none of the elevators were working. Our room was several blocks-worth of parking lot from the convention center, but it didn’t rain much, so….

As you may imagine, we very much appreciated the editorial opinion of someone who may have had the room before us:

Here’s a close-up.

He’s my new hotel mascot. I’m calling him Mr. DeFuh.

The convention will be at another hotel from now on.

Thursday Doors is the brainchild of Norm Frampton, photographer extraordinaire. Visit his site, enjoy his wonderful photographs, follow his directions, and enter a world of doors.

Not the most inviting motel I’ve ever seen. Kind of creepy, but then they all can’t be great. Glad you had a good time at your event. That’s what counts + pictures of doors, of course.

Imaginarium is the best event of the year, although Magna cum Murder runs almost even. 🙂

I’m glad the event went well, despite the hotel’s condition. I like Mr. DeFuh. I’ve stayed in a few hotels where he would be comfortable, or at least appropriate. Good thing we all appreciate ghost doors 😉

Yeah, they renovated the rooms in the livable areas, like installing a grab bar between the tub and the toilet, so it can be inconvenient to both, rather than installing two where they would be useful. They left the bugs and possibly black mold. I’m just getting over whatever I left with. The con runners were furious that they’d been snookered. We will NEVER be at that hotel again.

Yeah, not a winning hotel! Louisville, though, is a great place! Glad you had so much fun.

Louisville is great! The hotel was alllllllmost worth it, because it’s across Hurstbourne Lane from the Shalimar Indian Restaurant. I love that place! It has such handsome waiters good food.

It wasn’t quite as creepy as a different festival we did that was held in an abandoned apartment store. They had to remove a dead raccoon before we could set up, and they never cleaned the toilets before, during, or probably after. Imaginarium is usually stellar in every way, but they signed a contract with some people who are NOT stellar. Next year, a REAL hotel!
