We were thinking about buying some French doors until we found out how much they cost. Not a chateau in the Loire Valley, mind you, or a flat in mid-town Paris, but a set of doors.
Well, we’re from the Portland neighborhood in the West End of Louisville, and that means we make do with what we have, if at all possible (and sometimes if it’s not quite possible). So no French doors.
ANYWAY, the joy of the trip was the stroll through the wonderland of unhoused doors. It was like one of those trippy scenes from a Disney cartoon, only doors instead of pink elephants.
Naturally, I slowed our progress by taking pictures.
The person who helped us was really nice, and the price wasn’t out of line; it was just a lot.
Besides, on the way home, Charlie remembered that we already have French doors dividing my office from the bedroom! So he’s going to use those. That’s how we roll in Portland.

November 7, 2019 at 10:59amI was going to splurge for French doors on my old abode, but it wasn’t the price that stopped me. It was their lack of a mail slot- I don’t want mail accumulating in an outdoor box or on the floor when I travel.

I’d have to rescue one from a dilapidated barn or something. Hmm, they have animal rescue events, I wonder if there’s a door rescue organization where I could go shopping.

November 8, 2019 at 7:52amOh door stores are my favorite! We spent hours in a few places like this last year when we were shopping to replace some windows and our front door. The variety available nowadays is so vast that it makes it hard to choose; except of course what the budget will allow 😉

I love the look of the big wooden paneled ones with a peek-a-door where The Mister’s head goes, but I have other worldly desires (ice cream, hot baths, nail polish) which preclude such a purchase. I totally understand. I really appreciate your visit to the things I won’t purchase, but can truly admire 🙂

We did NOT buy any fancy doors. The fanciest doors we have, we salvaged from remodeling work Charlie did after he retired from teaching. These French doors we’re planning to move from one place to another inside the house were given to us. 🙂 Is it any wonder that my favorite character in any WWII POW movie/show is The Scrounger?
