My Current Obsession #NailArt

Yes, nail art. You probably thought it would be another imaginary boyfriend, didn’t you? Come on, admit it.

But, no! It’s nail art!

How did I get obsessed with nail art, of all things??? It’s so Not Me. And yet it is me.

Like all addictions, it crept up on me gradually. I began by going to a salon to get my nails done, which is something Mom and I had always planned to do together but never did.

I let them talk me into getting my nails dipped, which was a MAJOR mistake. The result was beautifully sparkly, but I had to go back to the salon to have it removed. Not even 100% acetone would get it off. They soaked my nails in 100% acetone for like 15 minutes, then ground off a layer with a dremel bit, then soaked, then drilled, and repeated until my nails were exposed, scuffed and pitted and grooved.

So then I had to paint my nails to cover up the damage, because it looked like I had been clawing my way out of a coffin or something.

I’m Goth-y, but not that Goth-y.

Then I wanted to do accent nails, then I started watching YouTube videos on nail art, and then I was hooked. I joined Maniology and bought stamping plates, stamping polishes, stampers …. The whole nine yards.

Here are some of my attempts at nail art. Sad, I know, but I’m learning.

And these, for Galaxy Con yesterday.

The first time I saw this, I laughed. But, it grew on me. (Not actually me, but my appreciation of it on others.)

Charlie still doesn’t like it that I do it, but I think it’s growing on him. He still laughs, but I think he’s more bemused now than incredulous. It is SO unlike me!

I don’t think it’s sad, but I’m hoping it doesn’t spread too far east.

I imagine it’s already there. The midwest is usually the last place a trend penetrates. 😀

That’s awesome you have a new obsession. I’ve done a few sparkle accent nails, but I’m not comfortable making this big leap to nail art.
So sorry you had the same gel experience we did. They really need to tell people all about it first. Really.
Imma send you Sassy’s new nails. Not her actual nails, cause eww, but like, photos 😉
