Find A Book. Plus: #Nails #MondayRecommends

I know there’s a billionbillion free books out there now. But free don’t feed the bulldog, and authors/publishers have bulldogs just like ebbybody else.

ANYWAY, you can always go to Per Bastet Publications and see what my partners and I are offering pretty darn cheap every day.

You could go to the Fiction Database and find just the exact book you’re in the mood for. Order from an indie bookstore, for more bang for your buck.

Or, if you’re still into free (no judgement), you can go to my Smashwords page for free eBooks. You’re welcome.

Now, I’ve been nailing my life away this week.

I bought some cheap polishes from Orly.

I texted this picture to #4 Daughter, the amazing Sara Marian, and she said, “Oooo, I like those greens!” And I said, “I bought greens?” They look blue to me. Even my husband said, “They’re kind of in between, but definitely more green than blue.” So I painted white polish on the sides and wrote GREEN on them. #ColorblindMuch

I also bought a bottle of Baroness X clear fluid art polish, and had to try that out.

My gold roses don’t show up! Waaaaaahhhhh!

A WRITING PROMPT FROM ME TO YOU: Roses are ordered but don’t show up.

I’ve been known to skip the free or $,99 books. If I wasn’t the book of want to support the author, I’m happy to pay.

I’ve been known to buy a book available for free – to support the author. Recently, even.

I’m old school – you get what you pay for. But then I rarely buy a book because it’s the first in a series; I worry about series, and the ability to keep mining a vein. My favorite series (after Sherlock Holmes, which had been a FINISHED series a long time by the time I read it as a nine-year-old) is John D. MacDonald’s Travis McGee series. It has worn reasonably well, and I’ve reread them in the past ten years.

I also have bought books I had or could have had for free, in order to support the author. And, as you know, I WILL buy the first book in a series. 🙂

Because we know what it feels like to see those sales on a dashboard.

I know! I will stop reading the dire news and get to work. I’m so excited with this scene that I’m at the ‘terrified of getting it wrong’ state which always precedes writing it – and revising it until it ISN’T wrong. Sheesh. That worry is part of my process I can’t seem to skip. I think it focuses the mind, and the questions start: how? what would make it wrong? what would make it right? and how can I make it more tense, how do I avoid ‘facile.’

Writing is riding the internal rollercoaster.

I’m sorry for putting you on one. It’s going to get worse. MUCH worse. Then better. Sort of.

But you’ve known since the beginning it wasn’t going to be an easy story.

Because the premise is hard, it will need the story to justify it. Or you wouldn’t like it.

Sparkle nails! Sparkle nails for the win! On my monitor, the one front and center is blue silver, yes a tiny green, but mostly blue. The other is aqua. I ordered Moo a polish called MINT for Christmas and it’s frickin blue 🙁

I can’t do my nails for a few days, because I ran out of quick-dry top coat, but those green(?) blue(?) polishes will be the first I use when my top coat shipment gets here. Ordinarily, I would run out to Walgreens and pick up a bottle of Sally Hanson Instant Dry, but #1 Daughter does our grocery shopping, and I’m not asking her to go into another store and get something she’d have to hunt for, y’know?

Ah, yeah, kind of a bummer. Until you get the instant dry, you can always try drying your nails by the heat register — or is that just me?

Ha! Yes, I generally polish a lot of skin. It’s kind of a rule of physics that, no matter how well you think you’ve cleaned up, there’s always some left that you can’t see until you take the picture.
