HELLO! My name is CHICKIE!
We’ve been really really sad here because of The Sad Thing. But I’m a helper girl, so I’ve been helping.
One day, my Poppy got sick. He wanted to sleep in my play chair, so two of my hooman sisters brought it downstairs for him and Mommy covered it with a cozy blanket.
I warmed it up for him. That made him happy.
But it didn’t help and he went away and then people took all the furniture out of his office and put a Strange Bed in and then he came home and all the hooman sisters and their mates and litters came and then they all cried real loud and people took him and the Strange Bed away again and the hooman sisters and their mates and their litters put the furniture back and Poppy didn’t come back and that’s The Sad Thing.
Now Mommy lives here all alone with us, but Tipper and I share her. Tipper says he job is being A Cat, and the best thing he can do is to just carry on catting. He did try to take Mommy a peach off the kitchen counter, but it was too heavy and he couldn’t pick it up.
But Poppy said I want to be More Than A Cat, so I’m a helper girl.
I make Mommy laugh sometimes when I tunnel under the covers:
I try to arrange the flowers one of our hooman sisters brought.
Hooman Sister #4 comes over from Loovoo to spend the night every other day, and I make Mommy smile by giving low fives from my catbird seat Poppy built me.
But mostly, I sleep on the bed near her, like I used to do with Poppy. It makes her feel better. It makes me feel better, too.
A WRITING PROMPT FOR ANIMALS: Did your hooman ever go away and not come back? What did you do?
