Cathouse In Progress #ThursdayDoors

Our #2 Daughter and her husband are refitting a shed into a house for her semi-feral cats, with a shaded concrete slab on two sides so he can grill out, which he loves to do.

Here are two pictures of the work in progress, featuring the door #2 Daughter’s Husband and one of our grandsons built.

The door has since been polyurethaned, the cracks have been sealed, and the walls have been painted. The First State Capitol Cathouse and Grill will soon be open for duty!

Thursday doors is the brainchild of Norm Frampton, photographer extraordinaire. Visit his site, enjoy his wonderful photographs, follow his directions, and enter a world of doors.

I’m pretty sure I have someone living under my shed, but I’m not opening the doors for any others. That is a good looking door.

What a great idea. Will the cats have a cat flap or something?

The cats have two flaps: One that has now been inserted into the door, and one in the back window with stepped shelves leading up to it. That way, if a threat comes in through the front door, they can escape out the back. Peaceful country living….

Your daughter and her husband have thought of everything. Very impressed. Giving a home to the homeless, no matter how many legs they have, is a sign of true caring.
As for peaceful country living…it’s magpie nesting season here at my place and my beloved maggies are being incredibly defensive. Golli [all black] cannot set foot outside the house, even with ME, without being dive bombed. And this is by a magpie I feed and talk to most every day.
They don’t threaten me but boy do they hate Golli. The irony is that Golli is not threat to them at all. A car accident left him slightly brain damaged and mostly blind so he can’t even climb small trees much less huge gum trees.
Ah well, things will settle down eventually.

We used to have a cat that the birds would dive-bomb. My best guess is that the target cat looks like a cat that is/was threatening the flock. Magpies have great memories.

Maybe it’s Pippi they’re remembering then, coz poor Golli has never been a threat. Pippi died about six months ago but she was black and Golli’s black…-shrug-

At this point I think our neighborhood could do with a few feral cats as we are currently being over-run by squirrels 😉

Maybe you have lots of feral cats, but they’re CANADIAN feral cats, and they’re too polite to eat the squirrels. Or maybe they’re American squirrels, and they’ve eaten the feral cats. American squirrels are damned aggressive, man. Many people swear the ones on U of L campus have pulled switchblades on them when “begging” for food. True story. Well, for a given value of “true”.
