Unarmed Bouncers #ThursdayDoors

Remember when my mother was alive, and I was ejecting ring-necked snakes from her house right and left? Well, that happened. Once I threw out the mama, we didn’t see any more babies.

After she passed, the first people who rented the house didn’t report any snakes, nor did the second renters. The third one did, but didn’t mind them any more than I do and just ejected them.

But she did trace them back to the broken gas fireplace that Mom broke from running it 24/7 during the aftermath of an ice storm, when we were without power back here for 10 days. Remember that? #1 Daughter drove me to the library when she went and I posted from there.

ANYWAY, the next renters say they may want to repair the fireplace and use it. I can’t be having li’l snakies hurt, so I got an exterminator to come see if he could remove them. He didn’t see any in there, but he put down Snake-Away and showed me where they came in:

He said the mice got in there, and the snakes followed them. Which, I guess, is why we’ve never had mice in the fireplace. I guess we’re lucky we haven’t had honey badgers.

No, ring-necked snakes aren’t poisonous. They’ll still bite to protect themselves, but I trap the babies between an upside-down bowl and something stiff and flat and release them outdoors. I did pick the big one up behind the head, because I would do anything for my mother and it was in her bedroom. I respect snakes, but I’m not afraid of them. Mind you, if it was a BIG one or a poisonous one, I’d be scared for sure!

I do believe this is our first snake/mouse/honey badger door. Good one!

Thanks! It was a bit of a shock, but my first thought was, “Thursday Doors!”

At the moment, it’s just a portal. New renters are going to decide if they want to repair the gas fireplace. If so, they probably need a working door. If not, we’ll seal it up.
