The Cookie With A Thousand Names #Vegetarian can be #Vegan

My recipe for this cookie, which I only make a Christmas, is Danish Cookies. It’s also called Mexican Wedding Cookies, Russian Tea Cakes, and I don’t know what all else. Our kids always called them Pecan Balls, which is less exotic but more descriptive.

Danish Cookies

  • 1 stick butter or margarine
  • 3 Tbs powdered sugar
  • 1 cup sifted flour
  • 1 tsp vanilla
  • 1/2 cup chopped pecans

Mix and roll into 1″ balls. Bake at 250F for 1/2 hour. Cool slightly, then roll in more powdered sugar.

Makes 24

I don’t know why I don’t make these more often; they’re super easy. I’m not very good with cookies, but these always come out perfect. Still, they’re just a Christmas thing. Go figure.

A WRITING PROMPT FROM ME TO YOU: Write about something a character (or you) confine(s) to one brief time of the year for no particular reason.

Well, some probably do. Maybe they’re supposed to. I’m just saying that I’ve heard these called that. Folks’ll say anything.

Polvorones. ‘Frangible’ cookies – they break up like clumps of dry dirt, polvo.

One of my favorite cookies – and I don’t eat carbs any more, so I miss them.
