Brownies How I Do

#4 Daughter doesn’t like brownies, but she likes them the way I make them.

No, I don’t add a “secret ingredient” wink wink nudge nudge say no more. I make them pretty much the way a carton of Hershey’s cocoa powder told me to:

Hershey Kitchens Brownies

Pre-heat oven to 350F. Butter a square pan. Mix:

  • 1/2 cup margarine or butter
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 2 eggs (or 1 goose egg)
  • 1/2 cup flour
  • 1/4 tsp baking powder
  • 1/8 tsp salt
  • 1/3 cup cocoa powder
  • 1/2 cup chopped nuts

Glop into prepared pan and bake for about 25 minutes. I know the recipe says 30 minutes, but I usually take it out 5 minutes early so it’s gooier.

When it’s cool, I ice it. Or frost it. Or whatever you want to call this topping.

The recipe for that varies, depending on what I have on hand.

This Brownie Topping

  • chonk of cream cheese
  • a little cream
  • whole bunch of powdered sugar
  • bunch of cocoa powder
  • a dash of vanilla extract or of vanilla sugar

Mix until smooth. Spread on top of cooled brownies. Sprinkle liberally with nuts.

These brownies are soft, but not gummy.

Very pleased with it. Sometimes something that I knock together works. I love that!

I do appreciate the measurements on the brownie topping – very easy to follow! And the addition of walnuts/pecans to brownies really does make it so much better!

On Tuesday, Sassy baked chocolate chip cookie dough on top of brownies with white chocolate chips. I’m not one to say a dessert is too sweet — but that one’s VERY sweet. I ate a crusty edge and I’m good til I dunno when! LOL

I hear ya! Hard to believe, but there is such a thing as too sweet. Not too chocolate, though. Never that.
