Here is another of my many obsessions: My Neighbor Totoro. The IMDB site has a few clips from it, but it must be experienced. If there was ever a more charming, feel-good, memorable movie, I haven’t seen it.
Here’s why, in a 10 minute video. There are a couple of commercials in the middle because of course there are, but bear with them for the rest of the review.

Two young girls, 10-year-old Satsuki and her 4-year-old sister Mei, move into a house in the country with their father to be closer to their hospitalized mother. Satsuki and Mei discover that the nearby forest is inhabited by magical creatures called Totoros (pronounced toe-toe-ro). They soon befriend these Totoros, and have several magical adventures.

Dan was in his mid-60s, old enough to want someone else to shovel his snow, but still tending to it himself. His neighbor was 95. He and Dan had never gotten along well, but he liked Dan’s wife. Dan cleared the old man’s walk and driveway. Of course, when he got to the end of the old man’s walk, Dan ran into the old man’s neighbor’s (a widow, in her late 60s) walk. The widow’s son would swing by with a plow and clear her driveway, but you can’t plow a sidewalk. Dan kept going with his snow blower until her walk was clear.
Later that day, the old man called. Dan answered the land line phone. The old man asked to speak to Dan’s wife. Later, Dan’s wife told him, “Bill says thank you.”

The girls love Totoro, which since I am not cool like Goth Mom, I often refer to as ToroToro, as in “Pick up your ToroToro socks!”

February 15, 2021 at 8:08amLOL! You just go right on ahead. Totoro fans know that “totoro” is a child’s mispronunciation of the Japanese word for “troll”, so you just have your own mispronunciation, like the cool kid you are.
