On the Soles of Her Shoes #MondayRecommends and #Nails

If you’re thinking about Paul Simon’s song, Diamonds on the Soles of Her Shoes, I congratulate you. That’s an earworm worth cultivating.

But that’s not what I’m recommending.

This week, I learned a new word, thanks to Ally Bean, who should have been doing her homework:

The word is Apricity [Merriam-Webster] and it means the warmth of the sun in the winter.

–Ally Bean

But that isn’t what I’m recommending, either.

I don’t know about where you are, but where I are am, it freezing rained and snowed and snowed some more and snowed some more and melted a little and froze. So walking was, I was told, treacherous.

Years ago, my late bestie, Jane, gave me some things called Yaktrax, which fit over one’s shoes and provide traction. Since #4 Daughter (The Amazing Sara Marian) visits me just about every evening and goes home after dark, I gave them to her. They always worked for me, and they work for her.

I recommend them highly. Yaktrax: Serious Grip in Any Condition.

Nails. You knew this was coming. I warned you this was coming. You should have expected that this was coming; it was only a matter of time. Thanks to my Maniology bud Christa Mann, I have a Supernatural stamping plate! Naturally, Crowley (my imaginary punk-ass crossroads demon boyfriend), is featured. The rude remarks on my bird fingers are stamped the other way around because they’re rude remarks on my bird fingers.

A WRITING PROMPT FROM ME TO YOU: Write about an occasion for rude remarks and/or a display of bird fingers.

About

I was born in Louisville, Kentucky, but now live in the woods in southern Indiana. Though I only write fiction, I love to read non-fiction. The more I learn about this world, the more fantastic I see it is.

I use two different kinds of spike. Neither is made of diamonds, but I get by just fine.

I’ve never had any spikes for my boots but I can see how they’d be great. It is gray and slushy and sort of icy here today, too. Thanks for the shoutout. It’s like warm sunshine on a winter’s day, which would not be a day like today.

Mostly cloudy here today, too, with the snow melting and the ground sloppy. Just in time, too: Tomorrow’s Senior Discount Day at the JayC, and I have to hitch up the buckboard and mosey into town for some vittles. Also: beer run.

I have spikey crampons that work well on icy and snowy roads and sidewalks, but when that’s a bit much those yaktrax would work a treat. I’m going to add them to my wishlist. Thanks for the tip!

I’ve only experienced snow once, and I literally couldn’t take a step without ending up on my rear. Take care over there!

We’re pretty well used to it. You have to step a different way. And Yaktrax help!

LOL! My 5’8″ husband had large feet. His father used to tell him, “You’d be a good-sized boy, if there wasn’t so much of yoiu turned down for feet.”
