Salad a la Dan: Lettuce With Grief Bacon Bits

Dan Antion were discussing the term “grief bacon” (emotional eating) in the comments of one of my posts, and he suggested I should add grief bacon bits to my salad. So I did.

Charlie’s idea of “salad” was torn up lettuce, so I started with that. On top went a “Mexican” cheese mix, grief bacon bits, and the tag end of a bag of Fritos. The dressing is French with some Sriracha blopped around in it.

It was most satisfying.

Of course, if you don’t do bacon, you can leave it out, or use bits of cooked chicken or beef, or — hell, it’s a salad! — Put whatever you want on it.

Bacon bits (Hormell sells them by the bag, precooked and in tiny pieces, mostly good) make EVERYTHING better. Assuming you eat bacon, I guess.

I have discovered that I love the California salads with sliced strawberries or blueberries or other fruits added to the protein bits and sometimes nuts – and mostly here go for the ‘mixed greens’ which include all kinds of dark green leafy and purple leafy things I didn’t use to eat nearly as much of. We’re spoiled – strawberries almost every day of the year.

I make a blue cheese dressing a friend gave me in grad school – low carb version – and have a big salad almost every day. Trace minerals and vitamins, do your worst!

That’s the kind of bacon bits I get! No muss, no fuss. I love salad with fruit in it. Pears, mmmm. I have a recipe for mandarin orange salad that’s out of this world (it might possibly be on my Recipals page). And I LOVE apple salad, with celery and raisins and nuts.

I try to stay mostly to the low-carb fruit like strawberries – raisins and apples are too high in carbs mostly.

I’m embarrassed, because your English is so beautiful, and I have to turn on Translation for your site. I know automatic translation generally does a poor job, but your graphics are wonderful, and the gist of your writing is intriguing.
