Hi, there! I’m Tipper Allen, and guess what?
I’ve been feeling better, too, since we got new food. It feels good to feel good!
Chickie’s Uncle Simon came to visit, and I didn’t get a bit mad. He isn’t related to Chickie or any of the cats at Chickie’s old house; he’s just a friend of the family. One day, he moved in under their porch with them and started helping take care of the kittens. He chased dogs and possums and stranger cats away from them. He’s just Uncle Simon.
Momma saw some birds in the front yard. She said they’re wild turkeys. I always thought they came in bottles, but maybe this is where they come from before that.
So maybe it was partly because she’s happy I feel good, and maybe it was partly because she likes to look at birds, Momma wasn’t too bad mad when I did this:
If she didn’t want me to break the blinds, she shouldn’t have let Poppa plant a tree right outside the window. She opens the blinds for me, now.
And she isn’t so mad that she won’t let me sit on her lap. Miss Chickie Touch-Me-Not won’t sit on Momma’s lap, but she’ll let #4 Hooman Sister wool her up on her lap and not scratch her to pieces. I think she’s crazy. Momma has a bigger and softer lap than anybody we know! Maybe anybody inna world!
Momma: Erm … thank you. I think.
A WRITING PROMPT FOR ANIMALS: Do you like to watch birds?

April 10, 2021 at 2:25pmOh, dear! Anything with Cedric Hardwicke in it is bound to be sketchy. But what a voice!

April 10, 2021 at 2:16pmBlinds just aren’t up to the strength of cats; they shouldn’t get in the way! Me, I’d reach for the white duct tape and be happy the cats didn’t manage to get their little heads caught. Just like we were so happy when we figured out Gizzy had managed to get BEHIND the wall of dressers, and had to move so much stuff to get her out of there, but she was not hurt (Husband had moved something I set up so she couldn’t get in there – and of course I knew what he didn’t think of!).

April 10, 2021 at 2:26pmOoh, I never thought of white duct tape! I don’t have any, but I do have clear mailing tape. I think that would do. Thanks! And I’m so glad your Gizzy stories all have happy endings! 🙂

April 10, 2021 at 2:37pmClear would work even better – great.
We HAVE to think ahead as much as we can, and they can get into spaces we would NEVER have believed they could. Gizzy was so silent always, that it was very scary.
But now I can look at Youtube videos – and see the space under the door is big enough and know the chinchilla will get under it. Husband didn’t think like that. She was my responsibility. I love to think of her being a little girl’s sole pet. If I ever get my picture, I’ll share.

April 10, 2021 at 2:45pmBoy, Sara’s chinchilla, Dasha, isn’t silent! That’s the talkiest critter! She barks, chirps, purrs, and squeaks. Not to mention rattling her cage, running in her wheel, and kicking her toys around.

April 11, 2021 at 12:29amIt’s all in how they were treated as babies, probably – unless they get another one that is noisier and get along.

April 11, 2021 at 9:22amWe don’t know how she was treated as a baby. When Sara got her at the pet store (not knowing about chinchilla rescue), she was of an age that she had probably been bought and returned already. She was undernourished, Sara found when she took Dasha to the vet. But Sara won her over, and now she’s fearless, curious, and pretty easy to make friends with. She loves her grandma. /beams/

April 11, 2021 at 2:24pmI’m so glad. I tried everything I could think of, and we spent long times some evenings with her running over me while I was flat on the ground – but it became too much for me. I let her run around the living room area – but couldn’t let her be there unsupervised (we still have furniture here she ate the finish off).
Someone younger is better.

April 11, 2021 at 4:54pmIt helps that Dasha is musical. If you sing to her, she bumps you up a notch on her Okay list. She loves heavy metal rock. When she stayed with me, I didn’t have any, so I played Klezmer music and Beats Antique, and she loves both of those, but not as much as heavy metal. They’re individuals, that’s for sure!

April 10, 2021 at 6:42pm-grin- Do cats play tennis? Coz that backhander was pretty good. 😀
I loved the photo of Uncle Simon. He looks so much like my friend Mitty. So nice to be reminded of him.
By the way, how did Uncle Simon get the ‘Simon’ part of his name?

April 11, 2021 at 9:19amLOL! I don’t know why #1 Daughter named him Simon. He just wandered up one day, all skinny and raggedy, and she named him Simon. Maybe he seemed simple. He’s a sweetie, anyway. He made friends with all us hoomans pretty readily, and has never had any trouble with any of the other cats, except any cat, dog, or raccoon who thinks they’re gonna interfere with Simon’s adopted family.
