Understood #1LinerWeds

My family doesn’t just have a supposedly funny saying for every occasion, they have one for pretty much every non-occasion. I say “supposedly funny”, because there are only so many times you can be tag-teamed with, “She’s such a wit!” “Well, you’re half right.” before it isn’t particularly funny anymore.

ANYWAY, one of the non-occasions of which I speak is when somebody explains something clearly. Then you say (if you’re my grandfather):

I see, said the blind man, as he picked up his hammer and saw.

If I could go back in time, I’d want to have dinner with your grandfather.

My mother loved that line (“I see said the blind man…”) and I remember her saying it on several occasions. I wonder what its origin is? Thanks for the trip down memory lane!

-grin- the one I heard was ‘We shall see,” said the blind man. It’s still one of my favourites. 😀

I tried to track it down, and it seems to be a mishmash of several things, not just one.
