Bucket List, #Maysville #ThursdayDoors

#4 Daughter, the amazing Sara Marian, stayed in Maysville, Kentucky while on a project for Corn Island Archeology, and brought me back some door pictures, like a good girl or, as she used to say when she was wee, a goo’ goo-uh.

Maysville is now on my bucket list. One part of it, Old Washington, is a living history village, founded in 1786 and named Washington after surveyor George of the same name. Yeah, that one. It also has the National Underground Railroad Museum, with a birthplace and statue of Colonel Charles Young, born in 1864 to enslaved parents and the third Black man to graduate from the U.S. Military Academy.

Maysville is the birthplace of Rosemary Clooney (aunt of George, and a Big Name Singer in her day) and Bourbon (’nuff said).

Read more about it online.

Oh, and it has a community college. So there’s that.

ANYWAY, Sara was being a goo’ goo-uh and her co-workers were like, “You’re taking pictures of DOORS for your Mom’s blog?” And she was like, “It’s a thing!” She said the next thing she knew, they were all pointing out doors for her, really into it, like they were on a scavenger hunt. She told me that when she started looking for doors, she started seeing all kinds of details she probably would have overlooked. A total win!

Here are just a few of the treasures she brought back. If I play this right, I can milk share her trip for weeks.

Yeah, Maysville is on my Bucket List.

She is amazing! These are wonderful doors, and I’ll bet some of those folks stay hooked, because doors are addiction. My fav is clearly that second shot with the rounded corner and a turret. I’d love to visit this town. And bourbon? Win!
