Bloomberg Where You Are Planted #Fridays4Future #ClimateStrikeOnline

I know there are one or two jokes in there somewhere, but I’m too lazy to dig for them.

ANYWAY, I decided to take a monthly subscription to Bloomberg Online so you don’t have to. Special offer of $1.99/month for the first three months, then up to $34.99 a month, except that I intend to cancel before things get that serious. The Bloomberg Green Daily newsletter is free, though, so, as somebody said in some cartoon I saw in my misspent youth, “The price is right! I like it a lot!”

Today, I spent the morning on the Bloomberg Green Climate Adaptation pages. Just the titles of the articles make me happy:

Guerrilla War, Divorce, Gangs Hold Secrets for Defusing Climate Disputes

A review of HIGH CONFLICT, a new book by Amanda Ripley, the article says,

High Conflict is not a book about climate change and the topic is mentioned only incidentally. But climate change is one of the horses that high conflict rode into contemporary life, and Ripley’s book brings practical insight into how people fight and why. If we know what’s good for us, this non-climate book will make the end-of-year best-climate-book lists.

Eric Roston

Then there’s Teenagers Are Winning Climate Fights One Court Case at a Time by Laura Millan Lombrana, in which the title pretty much says it all.

And Grandpa Joins Polish Activists in Court Over Climate Change Failures by Maciej Martewicz and Laura Millan Lombrana. Grandpa. Rickety old Grandpa. The child is 56, but “Grandpa” sounds so much cuter.

My favorite is probably — no, it has to be — Cargill Backs Cow Masks to Trap Methane Burps by Agnieszka de Sousa. Wouldn’t you pay $1.99 to read just that article? Sadly, the methane is converted to carbon dioxide, which is not quite as bad as methane, but my real hope for this technology is to pair it with a carbon-capturing device to turn the CO2 into building material and oxygen. If they could hook those up to capture the methane emissions of teenage boys, there’d be so much oxygen in the world we’d all go around high all the time.

Then there’s this wonderful story: Ancient Swedish Hamlet Holds Lessons for Future of Clean Power: Villagers capture and store solar energy in batteries at home as EU’s Clean Energy Package will encourage more mini-grids by Lars Paulsson, Jess Shankleman, and Jesper Starn.

So, although we’re certainly suffering the effects of climate chaos with worse probably to come, and even though resistance to solutions is still high among the powerful, some people and some companies and some politicians are still holding the short-sighted ones’ feet to the fire.

I’ll still be here. Hope you stay.
