Chickie Eats A Treat #Caturday #TipperAndChickie

HELLO! My name is CHICKIE!

Mommy gave us a treat this week. I smelled it and I told her I wanted some, and she put some in a little dish. Tipper ran over and pushed me out of the way, so Mommy put some in another little dish and gave it to me. Then Tipper went off and didn’t even eat his. I ate mine, though.

Then I ate his. Mommy said this treat is called Spam, and it’s a Guilty Pleasure. It tasted like salty meat to me, but I guess Mommy knows.

One thing Mommy doesn’t know is how to clean up her office. If Tipper and I made this much of a mess, she’d goshdarn us. All I could do is shake my head and say, “Mommy, Mommy. Such a mess!”

I can’t be mad at her, though. It got cool outside last night, so Mommy opened the windows and let us have some sniffs.

Thank you, Mommy!

Right! I cut the block into slices and freeze them. They aren’t any worse defrosted.

Hmm…I’ve never tasted spam so I can’t comment. I do try and keep my salt intake very low so I’d probably be with Tipper. Sorry Chickie. 🙂

Yeah, you definitely should give this a miss, then. I keep my Spam intake low, but sometimes I WANT SOME. I hear you have a thing called Marmite. What’s that like? Or is it Vegemite?

-shudder- Vegemite and it’s awful. I think it’s something you can only ‘enjoy’ if you’ve literally grown up with it, as a lot of Australian children do. I never did, and as a result, it makes me want to throw up. Literally. 🙁

I won’t try to find some so I can share the experience with you, then. I guess it’s what you grow up with. Like green beans boiled with fatty ham until the beans are limp as soggy cardboard. Mmmm, good eatin’! Around here.

I just put a hunk of fatty ham, some green beans, and some diced onion into a pot of enough water to cover the veg and cook it on a low boil until the beans are tender and the water is almost gone. Salt and pepper to taste. Doesn’t taste like actual green beans, but it’s like a different vegetable. lol

Could you use bacon instead of ham? Bacon is a staple whereas ham I only buy infrequently.
And I’m not a purist when it comes to green beans. lol Actually, my favourite way of eating them is in a red sauce made with bacon, onions, garlic, tomato & tomato paste.

Since you’ve never had the dish I gave you the recipe for, you can use whatever you like — LOL! Sure, some people do use bacon. I never thought of green beans in spaghetti sauce, but it does sound good! Thanks!

lol – I’ll take that as a yes. 😀 And I first had the green beans in the red sauce at a bbq. The hosts were of Greek descent and apparently the dish was inspired by their heritage. The sauce is made first and then the green beans are cooked in the finished sauce to whatever tenderness you like.
