Stomping Grounds #ThursdayDoors

#4 Daughter (the amazing Sara Marian) and I each drove to the fabulous Jeff Wyler Nissan in Louisville (my imaginary car dealer/service establishment boyfriend) so she could drop her car off for service. She had taken it to a different Nissan dealer and had had to leave her car there forEVver and they still didn’t get it done. So I said, “Take it to my imaginary etc. boyfriend,” and she did and they fixed everything overnight, funny jokes included.

But that’s not what I want to talk about today.

While we were there, I zoomed in on this across the lot and took a picture. I don’t know why back doors with a landing and stairs and a railing and an awning make me so happy, but I take it where I find it.

So she left her car and drove us home in my car, and I snappied some pictures on the way. Like this church with a bus shelter in front of it built to match the church. It’s kind of a door. Lights for Joey.

Then came this blast from the past.

This is — how shall I put it? — a goddamn dive. I don’t know if it’s a liquor joint with pool tables or a pool hall with a bar, but it has pool tables and it has a bar. A sister of a friend of mine took her sister and me there. This young woman knew no fear but, when we walked in and a bar full of pretty rough-looking characters stopped with their beer bottles halfway to their mouths to leer at us, my friend and I knew fear. Oh, yes, we knew fear, all right. You can’t let ’em smell it on you, though, so we played some pool and laughed at their jokes and insisted we had to leave for a previous engagement. Get back to church camp or something. Good times. Good times.

Then the car turned the corner (I’m back in the more presenty past now) and I saw another landmark of my ill-spent youth.

This was an independent movie house. It showed indy and foreign films and, every Saturday at midnight, THE ROCKY HORROR PICTURE SHOW. The sister of another friend of mine, with whom I shared a house for a time, took me there one Saturday night. I don’t know how many times I saw it after that. When the audience started getting on stage and acting out the film in front of the film, I stopped going. I came to see the real Tim Curry, not Rocky Horror cosplay. So do our delights evolve and leave us longing for the past. ::sigh::

I love these, including the dive. My dad always said to “look like you belong.” Tough for three women in a place like that – well done ladies. I do like the bus stop shelter that looks like the church and, since you step inside through the opening, it’s a door.

LOL “church camp” LOL Oh Marian, this is another great post!
I love the church and not just for the outstanding lamps you captured, thanks!
I am VERY disappointed that I finally have a set of geeky kids who enjoy singing and dancing (my older is set is one or the other, not both) AND we live in the city with the RHPS and neither of them want to go. I maybe will go with SIL’s beau or Sassy’s bestie, because I haven’t been in 24 years and I used to have so much fun!
