If you only came here for the doors, skip to the pictures. This is one of my posts that’s aimed at people undergoing a breast cancer journey and the people who want to know about it. I’m beginning the long, drawn-out process of getting a silicon falsie. I was planning to do without, but Left-Hand Louise is still with me, and she pulls my bras and blouses out of alignment.

Did you think, as I did, that you just got your prescription for a prosthesis from your surgeon, walked into a shop that deals with such things, and picked up something to go? Well, ya don’t. I had to take in my prescription and insurance card (Did you know, as I did not, that Medicare pays for six mastectomy bras and two silicone falsies?). Then I have to go back in and have a consultation. Not sure yet if I have a fitting that day or if that’s ANOTHER visit. I think it’s another. So be prepared for time to pass.

ANYWAY, when I dropped off my prescription and insurance card, I took the opportunity to snap some doors, because of course I did.

This building was across the street from the pharmacy. This first step is a doozy.

There was a little door in the back. I saw a man come out of it and go into a little door I couldn’t see in the gray-ish bit next to the first little door. There’s an invisible little door in the building behind it.

Here is Mathes Pharmacy in New Albany. Corner door FTW!

Inside, I found this display, which I liked very much. There IS a door in one of the pictures on the wall.

I don’t know who this guy is when he’s at home, but he certainly caught my eye. He’s a three-dimensional figure, not a cardboard cut-out.

This is the Medical Supplies station, where I’ll go for my interview and (I assume with some hope, beyond the door and not out in the open) my fitting.

Thursday doors is under the direction of Dan Antion, photographer extraordinaire and critter daddy. Visit his site, enjoy his wonderful photographs, follow his directions, and enter a world of doors.

My cancer-journeying friends clued me in on a lot, and that made things a lot less scary for me. I’m just paying it forward or, as a book I recently recommended put it, Walking the Bowl.
