Monster!

By Chickie Allen

It was a day like any other day. Clickie, the beautiful black and white cat, and Clipper, the okay white cat, took turns visiting their mommy in her office and poking her on the arm to get her attention.

Then, a car pulled up in front of the house.

Two hoomans came in, holding a cat carrier. They gave it to the mommy, who opened it.

Out came – A MONSTER! The monster had three colors, not two, which is the right number of colors, not one, which is okay, but three! It was hideously fuzzy and it didn’t have a face!

The hoomans kept calling it Adi, but Clickie and Clipper didn’t know if that was its name or the kind of monster it was.

“Good girl, Adi,” the mommy said. “What a pretty girl you are.”

The cats knew the mommy could be deceptive, because she said sweet things to them when she snuck up with the hairball medicine or the nail nippers, but they didn’t know she could just plain lie.

The monster wasn’t pretty – she was hideous!

After a while, the other hoomans left, but the monster stayed behind.

The monster rubbed against the mommy. She stretched out on the looking-out-the-window table. She prowled all over the house. Clickie and Clipper ran and hid, hoping it was all a horrible dream.

Whenever they would peek at the monster, she would say, “Och! I don’t know if I’m just visiting or staying, but can we not be friends?”

“No!” Clickie said.

“No!” Clipper said.

They hid all day. At night, Clickie didn’t even go help the mommy brush her teeth, and she didn’t sleep in the bed with her. Clipper came out of hiding and slept on his window seat at the foot of the Mommy’s bed.

In the morning, the monster was nowhere to be seen. The mommy went looking and found her in a cave under the couch.

Which is just where a monster belongs.

Would the monster stay? Would it destroy the peace and happiness of the house?

Tune in next week for the continuing adventures of Clickie and Clicker.

Now here’s Tipper’s Friday story:

Biscuits Before Breakfast

by Tipper Allen

Once upon a time, there was a black and white cat named Nickie. She belonged to a nice couple, but the man wasn’t there any more and the lady took care of her. Nickie liked the lady, but she used to like the man a lot better.

The lady’s grown-up daughter used to come visit. She always picked Nickie up and snuggled her against Nickie’s will and smooched her on the head.

Then the lady’s daughter went away for a week, and Nickie got lonely for snuggles. It was nice that the lady didn’t make her snuggle. Nickie finally understood that the lady was her hooman now.

So, at five o’clock in the morning, while the lady was sleeping on her side, Nickie climbed on top of her and sat down and made biscuits on her hooman’s ribcage. She purred very loud, so the hooman would know she wasn’t being attacked by a fierce predator.

The lady woke up and said, “Oof! Nickie! What are you doing? Are you making biscuits on me? It’s too early for breakfast, girl!”

Nickie knew that the lady understood, because she didn’t push her off, so Nickie sat and sat and purred and purred and made biscuits until the lady got up and made breakfast in the kitchen.

MORAL: Love your hooman.

You guys are master storytellers, and you have such wonderful humans, you should love them with all the purrs you got.

I’m with Dan. Marian should let you publish your own books. I’m dying to find out if the Monster stays or goes, and why she’s there in the first place! Not too sure about the biscuits though. 😉

You mean you don’t know what “making biscuits” means, or you aren’t sure it’s a good idea? If it’s the latter, I’ll tolerate biscuits, even on my ribs, even when I’m sleeping, as long as the claws stay sheathed.

Adi (aka the monster) belonged to the boyfriend of a friend of mine. He found he couldn’t take care of her as he wanted her to be taken care of because of his work schedule, so my friend asked if I’d like to see if she would get along with my cats. No blood so far.

-giggles- I’ve heard it called ‘kneading’ but that always makes me think of bread, not biscuits. But the visual came through anyway. :p
Ah, so Adi could be a permanent member of the household? Oh boy. Fingers crossed!

I fully intend for Adi to be a permanent member. Tipper and Chickie are dead set against it at the moment, which I expected. It’s only been one full day, though, so I’m optimistic.

Tipper seems to have stopped hissing at Adi, and just talks to her as he walks away. Chickie is still hiding out in the basement.

I’m really surprised at Tipper. I guess the difference is that Adi is bigger than he is. That’s probably why Chickie isn’t threatening her, either. They’re gradually getting acclimated to her presence. And she’s making herself right at home. 🙂

lol – so her size isn’t all fur? I do feel sorry for Chickie and Tipper though. They’ve gone from a relatively equal power balance to one in which they are on the bottom rung of the pecking order.

It’s a weird dynamic: Adi is threatening to her just by virtue of her size and newness, but she doesn’t actively threaten them. Chickie runs from her but Tipper chases her if he takes a notion. When he chased Chickie, she wrestled him and chased him; they took turns chasing each other. Adi runs from him. And Tipper and Chickie don’t play and chase any more. But it’s only been six days, so I haven’t given up on their making friends. Sometimes it takes a while. There’s been no bloodshed yet, and Adi doesn’t seem traumatized.

I know of people who have a huge number of cats – as in nearing ten! – and they all seem to survive somehow, but my guys have never been that accommodating. When Harry went missing for 2 weeks and came back, Buffa smacked him every time he tried to come inside. A degree of tolerance built up but even ten years later, poor Harry was bullied. Maybe two females will be different.
Is there no-one else who could give Adi a home?

Sara would probably be willing to try, but I’m not ready to give up yet. Adi doesn’t seem to mind the antagonism, and Tipper goes about his business unless their paths cross. Chickie has started coming upstairs more. It’s barely been a week, so we’re giving it more time. It isn’t as if they fight or even smack each other. If misery ensues for any or all of the cats, I’ll find other arrangements. 🙂

Fingers crossed things settle down then. If anyone can do it, you can. You did it with your mother’s cat too didn’t you?

It was the opposite with my mother’s cat: Tipper wanted to be friends and she wouldn’t have it. That’s why Tipper is surprising me now. He generally likes other cats. I think (I just made it up) that he’s protecting Chickie because Chickie seems to be intimidated.

That’s definitely possible. When Harry came back and was ostracised by the others, the only one who was ‘nice’ to him was Golli, who was also on the outer. I truly believe they form alliances just like people do. I hope Chickie’s ok.

I agree about the alliances. I knew the dynamics would shift with a third cat. Time will tell how that goes.

    Marian, it’s Jessica!

I love this little story that your kitties wrote! Adi is a bit intimidating due to her size but I’m sure they’ll be the best of friends! I’ll be waiting for the next entry and thank for taking in our sweet Adi! ^_^

She was hiding out this morning and Tipper and Chickie were trying to pretend she wasn’t there, but she’s come out this afternoon. Surprisingly, it’s Tipper who’s doing the hissing; I expected it to be Chickie. He might be jealous, because I’m supposed to be HIS hooman.

    Hi Marian, it’s Jessica!

Oh no! Chickie and Tipper are afraid of the fluffy giant! Haha! Well, I’m sure they’ll be fast friends and learn that she really is a gentle giant. I’m so glad that you brought Adi in to your home with open arms! We really are thankful (and relieved) that she’ll be in good hands (or paws)! ^_^

😀 She’s a real sweetie! Sara went nuts over her, and I expect the other girls will, too. It’s been weird, not having Tipper and Chickie roughhousing all over the house. They usually have several tussles a day, but all has been quiet since Adi got here. It would be great if she had a civilizing influence on these two yahoos, but I think they’ll get back to normal within a week.
