One of my Instagram friends send me a message of good wishes and affirmation in honor of the new month. I replied with an expression I use fairly often, even though I’m constantly surprised by how many people don’t know it and can’t seem to gather the meaning from the context. I guess there are more connections to make than I realize, which is frequently the case with expressions I consider understood in common.
I needed to explain to her that it means, “I like what you said, and hope whatever or whoever (if anything or anyone) in charge of the universe hears it and brings it about.”
It seems easier to me to just say,
From your mouth to God’s ear.
Not easier, if I have to explain it. Tough life, eh?
