December HOT FLASH

Anti-Grinch

I never take stuff when I break into a house. I only leave stuff.

A corpse, maybe, or a bomb. Thieves are mean.

four stars

Marian Allen’s Hot Flashes are a delight. A complete short story in just a few lines: a conversation, a sketch of a scene or a character and then, the stinger in the tail. (tale?)

Flash fiction is to a short story what Haiku is to epic poetry.

January

Yes

How could he do me like he done? He knows my temper. He knows I carry. It’s like he wants me to kill him.

Never could say no to that man.

Truth

I caught me a leprechaun. Made him tell me where to find his pot o’ gold.

I found the pot.

It was full of gold.

Piss. It was a pot full of piss.

Leprechauns never lie.

April

Tax Cut

“No! Please!”

“Sorry, sir. It’s my job to extract payment.”

“I’ll give you anything!”

“Bribery? Shame! I won’t take much. 10%, say?”

“Please don’t cut me!”

“You cheated on the boss’ daughter. Call this a stupidity tax.”

May

Barnyard Friends

Chickens keep the ground disturbed.

Corpses breed worms.

Plus, fresh eggs.

Live in harmony with nature, that’s my motto.

June

Nobody

Nobody knows I love the groom.

Nobody notices the caterer.

Nobody sees me with the bride.

Nobody suspects me.

I still have nobody, but neither does she.

July

Stroke of Luck

Did you know you can die of the heat?

Lena’s passed out from celebrating hitting the slots. I turn off the air and leave. Am I lucky, or what?

August

Hot

Julie was a hottie.
Bobby was, as well.
I caught the two together.
Now they burn in hell.

September

Biter Bit

Bill liked a well-trained dog. Saved time to steal one.

Too bad he didn’t know “Good boy” was its kill cue.

October

Request

Becca sent me a friend requestion on Facebook. One year to the day since I killed her.

Maybe she’s forgiven me?

November

Duty

Many thanks for money. Will write when get passport.

Seems stupid, when I already have the cash, but it delays suspicion 3-8 weeks, so….

About

I was born in Louisville, Kentucky, but now live in the woods in southern Indiana. Though I only write fiction, I love to read non-fiction. The more I learn about this world, the more fantastic I see it is.

What idea? Hot Flashes? Micro-fiction? Sure, have at it! I got into it from The Phone Book, a two-year project funded by the Arts Council of England.

Thanks, Benz, but these aren’t children’s stories. Dragon City sounds like something my grandson and I would have played, back when he spent the summers with me. We used cheats and hacks to get us through the boring bits. lol!
