On the Road to Knossos with Cat Pod #FridayRecommends

Friday RecommendsSome weeks, it’s just why is there so much internet and not more time??? This is one of them.

As I often tell my non-Facebook friends when I share these site with them, “See, this is why I’m on Facebook.” Well, and to keep up with the friends and family who are also on it, and to try to flog my books, but also because I would never find some of these awesomesauce sites, prolly, if I didn’t find them shared on Facebook.

So now I know about Open Culture: The best free cultural & educational media on the web. I know about it because somebody on Facebook shared this post: Ancient Rome’s System of Roads Visualized in the Style of Modern Subway Maps. Awesome.

Then there’s Realm of History: The Future Lies in the Past, with its posts on archeology, architecture, etc. Pretty sure I saw this on Facebook, but it might have been a sidebar on another site. ANYWAY, hold onto your hats, because this post is gonna fly you into the Minoan Palace of Knossos. Wheeeee!

I know I got onto Bored Panda from Facebook. Because cats. You can order these personalized cat LEGO kits for mucho dinero. Cat ‘LEGOS’ For People Who Can’t Get Enough Of Cats. WARNING: There are pictures.

I met Mary Melange, whom I’ve recommended before, through Thursday Doors, or at least through Thursday Doors bloggers whose posts I read every day. She has two cats named Gibbs and Ziva, who have a conversation in this post entitled Musings from the Pod. Also with pictures. Well, one picture, but it’s charming.

A WRITING PROMPT FOR YOU: Write about a cat on a road. It can be a metaphorical cat, if you like, and/or a metaphorical road.

I was born in Louisville, Kentucky, but now live in the woods in southern Indiana. Though I only write fiction, I love to read non-fiction. The more I learn about this world, the more fantastic I see it is.

Marian, thank you so much for sharing the Pod post and my blog page. I greatly appreciate it! Also, thanks for the other links. I will be reading more of the Knosses post when I have time, but with an initial peek, I find it fascinating that in 7000 B.C. the Minoans could build such a city.

As you might suspect, the cat Legos are my favorite. They make me smile! I can’t help but think how great these would be for people who love cats, but have allergies. Or just for people who want to add a whimsical touch to their abode. Too much fun!

And, of course, I’m wondering if the kits come as big chunks that are glued together and the “assembly” is just snapping the big chunks together. I’m wondering if one could go to the LEGO site, buy bunches of blocks in the sizes and colors one wants, and duplicate one’s cat EXACTLY.
