Steffie Turns the Key

Pete was baffled. “We’ve tried everything to break this code, but it’s still encrypted. Locked up tighter than a can of Klick.”

Steffie looked up from the paper Pete had handed her. “A can of what?”

“Klick. Kam.”

“Are you speaking Klingon again?”

“Spam.”

“Oh.” She frowned at the paper again. “And the cryptographer who encoded this is unavailable? I might be able to … persuade them to supply us with the key.”

“The cryptographer is personally encrypted. So, unless you’re good at the Ouija board or have Dr. Frankenstein in your pocket, that’s a no.”

Pete reached for the paper, but Steffie grunted and shook her head, staring at it with her eyes ever-so-slightly crossed.

He chuckled. “Looking at it harder won’t open it up.”

“What did you say it was as tight as?”

“The boss’ ass?”

“I can kill you with both my hands full.”

“Tight as a can of Klick. Or Kam.”

“Or Spam.”

She carried the paper to her computer desk and navigated to a website, scrolling down the comments until she came to a particular one.

Thanks for another informative blog. The place else could I get that kind of information written in such a perfect means? She copied and pasted it to a document file and printed it out, then placed it side-by-side with the coded paper. She pointed to the numbers, spaces, and punctuation, identical in both papers.

“The punctuation and spacing will be different in the message, once you substitute the letters in the spam for the letters in the message, and the numbers probably represent names or locations–“

“Yes!” Pete reached for the papers, but Steffie pulled them out of his grasp.

She put them on her desk and carefully printed CODE on the one he had given her and KEY on the one she had printed out.

“Just to be on the safe side. Safety is number one priority, after all.”

“For you, not for other people.” Hastily, Pete added, “And I wouldn’t have it any other way.”

All cans of Klick and Kam, (and I think Spam) have a key on them to open them. I always keep one on my keychain, along with an opener… JUST IN CASE.

A Kam emergency, is a serious and dreaded thing.

Steffie keeps one on her keychain, too. She has adapted hers as a lock pick. But this is TOP Secret. So tell no one. Instead, be like me, and blurt it all over the interwebs!

You don’t want to know what Steffie can do with that 1/4 inch wide little metal strip that comes off of the can. I can tell you that the Queen knows. But No POTUS. (Albeit there are rumors that Ike knew. It is OK. Ike was trustworthy.)

And the bottom of the can, can be polished too…..

    I shut him up, boss. He’ll be sleeping a bit. — S.
