So Feedburner, the doohicky that let’s people follow my blog by email, has ceased existence. It is an ex-doohicky. I’ve switched to follow.it, a Feedburner alternative.
This is where I’m supposed to tell you the advantages of follow.it over Feedburner, but the main advantage is that follow.it exists and Feedburner doesn’t.
I’m also supposed to tell you some other stuff, but I can’t even. Holly Jahangiri (the real one) knows all about it. Do follow her, but also follow me. If you want to, I mean. I ain’t the boss of you.
ANYWAY, if you get an invitation from follow.it that says it’s from me, it’s from me.

July 8, 2021 at 11:34pmHowdy, Marian! I’m playing around with Follow.it as well. I still need WordPress.com to comment. It will be interesting to see how all the electrically enhanced doodads play together.
Cheers,
Mitch

July 7, 2021 at 10:26pmp.s. Just accepted the invite and the display of your blog? changed to show your three most recent posts. Not sure if this is a filter /over/ your normal blog display or what. Took a screenshot if you want to see it. let me know.

July 8, 2021 at 8:38amThat’s supposed to be my normal blog display on my home page. The email you get probably just displays the current post. Dan’s blog does the same thing when I go to just plain nofacilities.com.

July 7, 2021 at 1:16pmInstructions followed (hehe) – this had better work.
If you don’t hear from me when you post something, give me a kick. I’d hate to miss anything.

July 7, 2021 at 11:44amThank you, Marian! I was happy to see that I did not even have to re-confirm the fact that yes, of course! I want to follow you. You just showed up in my inbox and my feed list on Follow.it! And how lovely – you sent me readers, too! I’m glad everything went smoothly for you. Mitch M. had a few hiccups, but from what I see this morning, Follow.it support has got all that straightened out, for which I am greatly relieved. They do seem very responsive if there are any problems at all – even for the entirely free tier. That impressed me.
Feedburner isn’t “gone” but it’s gone into “maintenance mode” officially, now, and that’s the first step towards a real end-of-life. If it’s broken, they probably won’t fix it. We’ve been hearing about its “imminent demise” for 7 or 8 years, now, so it took Marina three emails to even convince me I ought to look at Follow.it. I’m glad that I did, and I like it. I’m glad you decided to check it out, too – and that the switch seems pretty seamless for current subscribers. That’s always a worry – I don’t want to give my 64 a reason to opt out!

July 7, 2021 at 1:17pmThere are supposed to be benefits for readers, but I can neither find them nor figure them out. Now Social Share Icons & Social Share Buttons wants in on the action.
