So we watched Hocus Pocus 1 and 2 this Halloween. We still love 1, and we loved 2. Yes, there were a lot of elements from 1 that were recycled in 2, and sometimes it was funny and sometimes it was “They did pretty much this same thing before. Do something different!” I predict that, in my particular case, I’ll like all the echoes in the second one.
Bette Midler is always a treat IMO. Also IMO, Kathy Najimy is a hoot in this, and — also IMO — this is Sarah Jessica Parker’s best role.
Maybe my favorite thing is how the writers, in 1 and 2, take the gag of only cleaning tools being considered suitable for flight and Najimy’s witch having to settle for an unconventional cleaning tool and make it a plot point later.
Or, no …. Maybe my favorite thing was the Dark Shadows (the real one) reference. If you didn’t know, you didn’t need to know, but we stopped the film and cheered and high-fived at my house.
I also loved the backstory, with three young actresses getting the gestures, postures, and vocal quirks of their adult counterparts perfectly
Looking forward to next year’s HP binge. I predict … there’ll be a big bad and the Sanderson Sisters will be brought back to combat it. On the side of the good guys — or are they? That’s what I would do, if I were running the franchise. Destroy All Monsters, style o’ fing.
My nails this week are a simple fall mani.
I did a base color on all my nails of Maniology’s Latte, then covered all but my accent nail with a thin coat of Baroness X’s Empedoclese on Etna (I don’t name ’em, folks). The stamping was done with MoYou London’s Gold Espresso. The hedgie came from MoYou London’s Fall In Love Collection – 09. The trees, which form a wolf, came from Maniology’s M076.
A WRITING PROMPT FROM ME TO YOU: A wolf and a hedgehog. Literal or figurative.
