#ThursdayDoors #writingprompt
Last week, the inestimable Teagan did a post on secret rooms, which inspired me to post my own secret room.
I have sleep apnea, so first I snored and then I wore a CPAP mask. For some reason, my husband didn’t care to sleep with a buzzsaw or with cold air blowing on him, so he decided he needed to sleep elsewhere. We have three bedrooms upstairs for children who are grown and gone, but he wanted to sleep on the same floor as me because love.
SO.
There is a wall.

Oh, but wait!

And inside:

He called it his cell, as in monastic, not as in incarceration. Chickie calls it Poppy’s room, and no other cats are allowed on the bed. The sign says NO JUSTICE, NO PEACE. KNOW JUSTICE, KNOW PEACE. Charlie made it for the last place we went before he went into the hospital: a Black Lives Matter demonstration in our little red-voting town.

February 23, 2025 at 7:00amNow, I seriously didn’t want to miss this post. I didn’t get an alert, and I don’t get alerts, nor do I have any way of knowing people link to the Category. OK, how much of this extreme screw-up can I blame on WordPress?
I love the secret door. Even more since it’s a room you can escape to. That is so cool.
Although I said I wouldn’t, I do apologize for being late (I did get you into the Recap).

February 23, 2025 at 11:32amThere are actually two doors into the room, though only one is secret. I had to close and latch the other door because Adi kept sneaking in and hacking up hairballs, and Chickie can only do so much policing.

February 20, 2025 at 1:07pmHi Marian. Thanks for the shout-out. That made me smile. I had been reminding myself to look for this post. (Too many panic attacks lately, so double thanks for the smile.) I’m sure that creating this post brought a flood of memories. The room is a very smart idea, and I would never have spotted the door.
Big hugs to you and the kitties.

February 20, 2025 at 3:14pmI understand about frequent panic attacks lately. With me, it’s rage. ANYWAY, the post did bring back many sweet memories. And I’m proud to say the room and the secret door were my ideas. 🙂 He was talking about moving a small bed into the cupboard under the stairs. I was like, “Who do you think you are, Harry Potter?” He said, “Who?” lol
