I highly recommend continuing to have birthdays. I mean, my dear old gray-headed gramma used to say, “Getting old is hard, but it beats the alternative.” But that’s not what I mean. Some people continue to get older, but choose not to acknowledge it. I recommend continuing to acknowledge it.
I turned 76 this past Saturday (not, as my cat supposed, more than 100 — he thinks in cat years, after all), and I had a blast. I got a birthday discount at the farmers market, got super birthday presents, got taken out to a Korean restaurant where I was given a free dessert in honor of the day and to a Korean market where I was bought lots of nifty ingredients one can’t get — are we surprised? — in backwoods America, and had many good wishes sent me from near and far. What’s not to like?
I did my first Fall (Autumn, to my non-American friends) mani of the year. My base colors are bright metallic blue and Gingersnap, and the stamps are of red, yellow, orange, and brown.

So happy birthday to everybody whose birthday is today, and happy un-birthday to the rest of us!

September 28, 2026 at 10:51amI’m glad you enjoyed your birthday, and I agree, those are meant to be acknowledged and celebrated. Another year on the right side of the grass, as my father-in-law used to say. Impressive nails, and I hope you have a great week.
