Went to the Dogs #FoundPoem

Time for another entry from our local weekly newspaper’s call-in column, where people (mostly anonymous) can call in and vent. If this ain’t vernacular poetry, I don’t know what is.

Went to the Dogs

by Anonymous Caller

The Palmyra Town Hall
has seemed
to went to the dogs.
The three times I’ve been in there,
I have seen a dog
running around
in the town hall.
This does not look very professional
for town government
and water utilities.

Maybe not for town government, but water utilities….

I posted last week at Fatal Foodies about Charlie getting stewed. Apples. This week, I’m posting about our New Year’s Day meal.

A WRITING PROMPT BASED ON MY POST: Someone spots a dog in an unexpected place.

Wait, don’t the water utilities maintain the hydrants? Maybe the dog was there on business…

‘Has seemed to went’ is, uh, creative?

I take it the transcriptionist believes in literalness? Did I just make up a word? Literality didn’t work for me. Literal-mindedness?

    Isn’t English fun?

Literalicity. Litermousness. Yes, the transcriptionist takes down what people say exactly as they say it. That’s what I love so about it. ~grin~
