Friend and fellow author Joanna Foreman has brought much joy into my life, and among these is (are?) green smoothies.
Charlie loves them, too and, during the summer when produce is fresh and plentiful, we have one almost every day.
Here’s one we had recently:
Our smoothies always start out with a banana and some kale. I usually add some nuts or nut butter, whatever fruit is lying around, and sweetened vanilla almond milk. This day, I had some leftover cottage cheese topped with peaches in raspberry-flavored syrup so I tossed that in. It was soooo good!
Of course, every time I think of “smooth,” I think of Bob Tucker (aka Wilson Tucker), the late lamented science fiction author. At conventions, in the days before AIDS, he was in the habit of gathering as many people as would fit into his hotel room for a free-for-all conversation. Every so often, he would open his bottle of Beam‘s Choice bourbon and pass it around the room. When everybody had taken a sip and it had returned to him, everybody would say, in unison, “Smoooooooooth.” Good times.
And always, always, always, Santana!

June 9, 2016 at 2:26pmRemember the convention where he was introducing himself as, “Hi, I’m Jules Verne. I write submarine stories.” When Sara, who was 11 at the time, laughed, he adopted her as his granddaughter. 😀

June 8, 2016 at 4:28pmNot a fan, but you caused me to remember an episode of M*A*S*H where Col Potter sips some whiskey and says “not enough O’s in smooth”

June 8, 2016 at 3:54pmI’ve gone back to smoothies instead of continuing to buy the most delicious high fat high sugar yogurt I love. Today I used frozen blueberries, plain Greek yogurt, and unsweetened almond milk. I sometimes use the unsweetened almond/coconut milk for extra delicious flavor. I do not add sugar, but sometimes throw in other healthy fresh or frozen fruits. I haven’t tried adding kale or spinach yet. I was worried that with the blueberries I’d end up with a very unappetizing color. 😀

June 8, 2016 at 3:59pmOh, but I LUUUUUUVVVVVV sweetened vanilla almond milk!!!!! heh. I never added yogurt. Sounds good! We like apples and/or oranges and/or peaches — whatever we have the most of. And always a banana. And always kale. Depending on how many blueberries you use, the color, with kale, is either a charming mauve or a repellent gray. Or, if the blueberries are few, a piquant blueish-green. It’s an adventure.
