SPIRIT OF INQUIRY

If God is
ineffable
unknowable
transcendent
sublime

and

we are forbidden
to follow false gods

then

why do we
tear selected bits
from sacred books,
soak them in other people’s blood,
form self-portraits
around our guilty fists
and worship them?

Praise the Almighty,
Lord of the Universe
Creator of All Things
Seen and Unseen.
Praise Him, all ye peoples,
or this lump on the end of my arm
will give you such a smite!

Comes the reluctant antiphon:
“Alleluia, I guess….”

About

I was born in Louisville, Kentucky, but now live in the woods in southern Indiana. Though I only write fiction, I love to read non-fiction. The more I learn about this world, the more fantastic I see it is.

God, patriotism, and a host of other beliefs and loyalties can be perverted by anyone to support their own agenda. At no time is that behavior in keeping with the true meaning, but… We are flawed.
