My Deal Me In deck dealt me spades this week, which means Daily Science Fiction. As usual, I hit the Random button, and I got this:
Curing Day
by Dustin Adams
In Adams’ future society, an attempt has been made to cure all illness and stop all aging.
It works. Unfortunately, it stops ALL AGING. How would you like to be nine for infinity? In middle school?
As a blessing, taking renewed doses of the panacea makes you forget that you’ve had these lessons before, that you used to have parents and friends who died in accidents or pets who died of old age.
This is told from the point of view of an old nine-year-old who does not forget. He remembers when he had parents. He remembers when he had friends now gone. He remembers when people could still reproduce, when the population wasn’t plummeting.
Sad, interesting story. Thanks, Deal Me In!

If YOU need a short story to read, I have free ones here on my Free Reads page. I also have four collections for 99 cents each linked from my Short Stories page.
