#1 Daughter, the amazing Sara Marian, has done some skip-tracing I mean genealogy and found the town in Germany my maternal grandfather’s great-grandfather came from.
It may explain a lot about me that, when I looked the joint up on Ecosia Search, I found this:
Frankenstein Castle (German: Burg Frankenstein) is a hilltop castle in the Odenwald overlooking the city ofย Darmstadtย inย Germany. It is thought that this castle may have been an inspiration for Mary Shelley when she wrote her 1818 Gothic novel Frankenstein; or, The Modern Prometheus.

There’s also a Darmstadt, Indiana, so I see a field trip in my — possibly distant — future.
I don’t know where #4 Daughter got these pictures, but I think she got them from Wikimedia. If I find out, I’ll add attribution. If I get a take-down order, I’ll let you know. I don’t want to be stealing other people’s photographs.

A WRITING PROMPT FROM ME TO YOU: Where did your great-grandfather’s great-grandfather come from? If your’s a writer, where did your main character’s great-grandfather’s great-grandfather come from?

June 4, 2020 at 9:53amOh, that was fun, Marian. Loved the photos.
I can answer the “Where” question, but I’m not sure how many “Greats.” In 1692 whoever-many-great grandpa came to the USA from Scotland. Apparently right away, he headed down to a particular southern state, and none of his descendants had the gumption to leave it. Well, except for for a few, including me. Hugs on the wing.

June 4, 2020 at 1:01pmMy great-grandfather’s great-grandfather?! Ooh that’s quite a ways back. I’ve honestly never had the inclination to dig that far back into the family history. It’s super cool what you found though and I can imagine it’s kinda fun to get lost down a rabbit hole that has such a personal connection ๐
