Grounded #FridaysForFuture #ClimateStrikeOnline

In my perambulations around the interwebs I came across Now, I am all about physics although I don’t have the brain for it. To paraphrase the Englishman at the beginning of Casablanca, I know very little and understand even less.

I still think it’s awesome.

But ANYWAY, I found an article on,

Getting the message right on nature-based solutions to climate change

by University of Oxford

The article quotes Professor Nathalie Seddon, Director of the NbSI [Nature-based Solutions Initiative], saying that just planting trees won’t do it; just slapping some non-native greenery somewhere won’t do it; imposing foreign imperatives to the detriment of indigenous well-being won’t do it.

The four points in the paper she helped prepare are:

  • NbS are not a substitute for the rapid phase-out of fossil fuels;
  • NbS involve a wide range of ecosystems on land and in the sea, not just forests;
  • NbS are implemented with the full engagement and consent of Indigenous peoples and local communities in a way that respects their cultural and ecological rights, and
  • NbS should be explicitly designed to provide measurable benefits for biodiversity.

Makes sense, doesn’t it? Even I can understand that.

Mommy loves you.

    Physics isn’t my thing either, but you’re right, that is a message that we can all understand. You don’t apply a bandaid to a punctured artery just to make yourself feel better. Or as many of our politicians have it, to look as if you’re doing something even when you’re not.
