More #Imaginarium #ThursdayDoors

We had a great room, even if there was a suspicious red blurt of something on the windowsill. At least it was on the OUTSIDE of the window.

Here is the view out of our room door. The convention office was immediately to the left outside those doors, and the stairs down to the vendor hall was on the right.

Here are the stairs up to those doors and, through them, our room.

I don’t know what this fancy thing was — just a thing to be fancy, I guess — but in person it was very shiney.

I don’t know if this big open place qualifies as a doorway or not, but the revolving door to outside is visible in the distance.

These half-doors led to the bar area. Cash only, which we thought was weird. We didn’t go in, as we had a sufficient quantity of social lubricants in our room.

Sara says she and her co-workers made doorscursions around the town where they were quartered on the dig, so I expect to have some Sara doors to share next week.

    Dear Author,

You failed to include the most important photo. You’ve heard of Chekhov’s gun? Once you introduced the “red blurt of something” you had my undivided attention, but then showed me pretty pictures of a…hotel?

I believe your “fancy thing” was actually a collection of Inquisition-era “coffin nails.” Not actual coffin nails, but torture spikes once used to extract confessions from prisoners confined to a coffin-like box. Very grisly stuff. Surprised to see them so artfully arranged on the hotel wall, but I suspect they may be a clue to your “red blurt.”

    Most sincerely yours,
    Head Librarian Holly Jahangiri

Dear and honored Head Librarian Holly Jahangiri,

I am familiar with Chekov’s gun. Have you ever seen Frankenstein’s Monster’s Monster Frankenstien? I’m not sure if it’s on Netflix or YouTube; Sara showed it to me. It was “sponsored” by Chekov’s Guns And Ammunition — “You’re gonna use it.”

The red blurt appeared in last week’s Thursday Doors. I begged to be told it was only candle wax, but nobody responded. I can only assume nobody could honestly assure me of that, otherwise the silence would be discourteous, and discourtesy, of course, is unthinkable.

I believe you may be onto something with the “coffin nails”. It is not inconsistent with the insistence on cash transactions and the presence of babushkas. (See previous Thursday Doors post.)

      Yours very truly,

Dear Author and Creator of All the Things Fit to Print,

However could I have missed last week’s Thursday Doors? I shall take a look, and thank you for pointing my feet and eyeballs in the correct direction.

You know that I am not the least bit squeamish; if you feel that I ought to be accompanied by my Dashing Darling Darzin, just in case, I should – as always – accede to your wisdom. 😉

With warm regards and a flourish of purple feather-blossoms,
        Your friend Holly Jahangiri

Ha! Darzin will be blushing and digging the toe of his boot against the sidewalk to hear you call him dashing and darling. Oh! Look! Do you see that cloud of hearts and flowers rising over the Policing Station? Whatever could that be?

Well, it HAS been, what, 10 years, now… you realize that? He is pretty dashing and darling. A girl can only play hard-to-get for so long…

I’m thinking it would be hard to walk in a straight line across that floor after a few beers!

HA! It was. I had to go down the hall from our room to get ice, and it was like walking the deck on a tossing ship. lol
