Hi, there! I’m Tipper Allen, and guess what? It got really cool here inna nighttime and alla time except the hot part of the day, and Momma opens the windows and we get sniffs from all around! But the best sniffs are still through the catio, because that also smells like us.
Chickie agrees.

I like to look out one of the front windows, next to the bluebirds Grandma made. Sometimes there are deer out there, eating Poppa’s hostas.

But you already know my favorite place to be: Momma’s lap!

A WRITING PROMPT FOR ANIMALS: Where do you get the best sniffs?

September 2, 2025 at 5:31pmHaha, I love this.
Marian, “the best sniffs” cracked me up, but it’s a terrific exercise. Coincidentally a few days ago I emailed myself a reminder to do a writing exercise on the sense of smell: “Write a paragraph describing a smell.” So you were… I can’t help myself… on the nose with this. Hugs from the Scoobies and me.

September 4, 2025 at 10:01amSara and I did that exercise, which made me painfully aware of how little I used scent in my writing. Which, I suppose, is the point of doing writing exercises. 🙂 Hugs back!

September 1, 2025 at 9:50pmI know it’s bad to play favourites but…Tipper looks so much like my Mitty. I still miss him after 35 years. Huge hugs handsome boy!

September 2, 2025 at 8:30amI can’t play favorites, but you’re allowed. lol I know what you mean about Mitty — I still miss my first cat, Tiffany (they named her at the shelter).

August 30, 2025 at 5:34pmWish I had a Tipper for my lap. I even looked into artificial ones (nothing looked as if it would be soothing to pet and the size of a real cat).
There is no way this mess of the person I live with would be safe for a cat, and I can’t do the cleanup myself, but it will remain a dream.

August 31, 2025 at 2:48pmI was in the same place you are after Sara’s cat, Al, died. He was our last, and Charlie and I agreed, “No more cats! It hurts too much to lose one.” I even got a mechanical cat but — you’re right — it just wasn’t the same.

September 2, 2025 at 5:38pmAlicia, you might Google weighted plush cat companion toy. The more expensive ones look very realistic. I considered this when my Crystal died, but I just couldn’t take being cat-less and adopted 2 kittens (now cats). Hugs.

September 5, 2025 at 4:10pmThanks – I’ll look that up.
I’d rather have kitties, but am disabled enough that I also don’t want to increase the burdens on my husband. He’s already doing far more than his fair share.
The search yielded a lot – a few realistic, most not, and I really do NOT want an interactive or robot one! Just something that might give the same feeling when stroked!
