We tried to watch The Wild Robot on Netflix and turned it off before we’d watched more than 20 minutes. Within that time: cute crab snatched away by bird, decapitated bird head displayed like it ain’t no thang, frightened possum staggering around and explaining his long death scene by saying, “Meningitis takes a while,” and a mother possum saying, “As the mother of seven children–” (scream off-camera) “–six children…”
Y’all, I watched all three seasons of Squid Game and re-watched the first, and this was too much for me. If you think this kind of humor, dark as the abyss, with the hideous held up as hilarious in the context of a cartoon children will want to watch, sounds like a good time, I recommend this animation.
Otherwise, not.
I finally got some good fluid art cells so I have to show them off. Most of my nails are dark blue with gold stars stamped across them, and I did the fluid art on my extreme digits. Only the thumbs are noteworthy.
The colors are: dark blue, pale blue, orange, and yellow.

August 13, 2025 at 9:58pmThere is some very sick stuff coming out, but I don’t think it’s aimed at kids. I think kids are simply a casualty of our 100% freedom and bugger-everyone-else world. I’m seeing it a lot in the gaming community where the level of self-obsession is…disturbing.

August 14, 2025 at 9:29amSadly, we have come (at least in the Western World) to a point at which pathology is applauded if not rewarded. Narcissism, sociopathy, and every “deadly sin” but sloth are given positive-sounding names and pursued with relish.

That show sounds deplorable. Actually, it sounds like the kind of thing that would be liked by the kind of psychotic monster who gets off on torturing animals. Don’t get me wrong — I’m more about freedom of speech than most people are. However, I don’t see how artists and writers (and especially the people who make TV shows and movies) need to exercise some social responsibility.
But that’s just me. About 30 years ago I thought I must have lost my sense of humor, because most of the things that are supposed to be comedies aren’t even remotely amusing to me.

August 12, 2025 at 8:27amI suppose the shock factor causes appalled laughter, and that’s mistaken for genuine humor. There was a point in sit-coms where shock and cheap shots were the only “humor” present. Schitt’s Creek started out looking like that, but it gradually became genuine and moving and funny because it was so human. Community and The Good Place were the same. Resident Alien is also good. We ended up watching Benny and Joon. Sara and I had seen it before but Michael hadn’t.
