Red Stapler

We all had red staplers. Everybody in the office had a red stapler. The boss made a Very Big Deal out of it, seemed to expect a laugh and applause for it, which his fellow bosses supplied and we followed just out of common courtesy.

From the speech he made when he officially opened the office and welcomed us to the new firm, he seemed to think our all having red staplers would guarantee harmony and productivity.

Full time with benefits would have done more for that, but whatever.

Then we had Secret Santas, and some fool gave the weird guy a black stapler.
