Thursday Doors: One From England

#ThursdayDoors #writingprompt

See, I knew this would happen when I stopped posting every day. I forget to post on the days I’m supposed to.

ANYWAY, here’s a door from England, sent by friend and fellow author Andrea Gilbey.

Here’s a door with a story for you.

This is Portland Works in Sheffield, England, built in 1879 as a workshop for what were known as “little mesters” (Yorkshire pronunciation of “masters”.

It’s a collection of individual workshop spaces, originally occupied by spoon makers.

In the late 1970s, an unknown teenage rock band called Def Leppard rented out one of the disused workshops as a rehearsal space for £5 a week. The rest is history (or even Hysteria!)

Today the building is grade 2 listed and is once again used by individual artisan craftspeople, including a gin distiller!

Thursday doors is under the direction of Dan Antion, photographer extraordinaire and critter daddy. Visit his site, enjoy his wonderful photographs, follow his directions, and enter a world of doors.

About

I was born in Louisville, Kentucky, but now live in the woods in southern Indiana. Though I only write fiction, I love to read non-fiction. The more I learn about this world, the more fantastic I see it is.
