ENDER’S GAME is a disturbing book, as is its companion, ENDER’S SHADOW, which covers the same time frame and some of the same scenes from the point of view of another character. We don’t like to think that small children can and do endure the struggles endured by these children. We don’t like to think that small children can and do comprehend and adapt, strategize and implement those strategies. Distrubing, brilliant books.

This weekend, Sara and I watched the film made from ENDER’S GAME, mainly because Harrison Ford and Ben Kingsley and Viola Davis are in it. The filmmakers mitigated the disturbance a tiny bit by making the children older and by changing a couple of interpersonal outcomes, but it was pretty damned faithful to the book. Highly recommended.

I was feeling kind of springy, even though the weather has turned freezing again. Blackberry winter, as my Aunt Rose would say.

These are beige with the accent finger topped with a shiny topper. Three shades of green for the stamps, top coat matte.

Don’t ask me where all those li’l bubbles came from. I mean, you can ask me, but I don’t know.

I was born in Louisville, Kentucky, but now live in the woods in southern Indiana. Though I only write fiction, I love to read non-fiction. The more I learn about this world, the more fantastic I see it is.
