Thursday Doors: St. Petersburg (Russia)

#ThursdayDoors #writingprompt

Here are doors from Sara (#4 Daughter) and her comments.

The courtyard at my homestay apartment (taken at 2am two days after the summer solstice):

Front door to the sculptors’ studio I visited. The husband of this couple grew up with regular visits from Yevgeny Gagarin, who was a good friend of his parents!! He made some amazing art, too (the sculptor, not Gagarin, at least as far as I know).

Side view of the door to the little basement shop where I bought my basic stuff like bottled water, “fruits of the forest” juice (wild berry, 100% real juice), bread, and this creamy breakfast spread that’s a cross between yogurt and cream cheese. Those stairs, though!!

Along the walk between my homestay apartment and the Hermitage Museum was this fantastic bookstore (there are doors in here, but the bookstore’s hat really seals the show):

The walk approaching the Hermitage Museum means you get to go through two big, angled arch/tunnels!

And then there’s the former Winter Palace (now the Hermitage) and the square with the Alexander Column. When I was there, there were free outdoor concerts in the square most weekends and people in period clothing (usually 18th century) giving talks and carriage rides during the day.

Please join me in thanking Sara for the tour.

Thursday doors is under the direction of Dan Antion, photographer extraordinaire and critter daddy. Visit his site, enjoy his wonderful photographs, follow his directions, and enter a world of doors.

About

I was born in Louisville, Kentucky, but now live in the woods in southern Indiana. Though I only write fiction, I love to read non-fiction. The more I learn about this world, the more fantastic I see it is.
