So I totally know Jack Wallen. Sort of. Okay, I know him ONLINE, okay? So he recommended Peach OSI Linux distro, and I downloaded it and burned it to a disk.
Now, you know my desktop is dead, Jim. So I stuck the Peach disk into it and installed it beside the dead Ubuntu OSI. And the Peach works. I can’t get to my files, but that’s okay. I can now tell that my motherboard is fritzing its brains out, and it really, truly is time to get a new hunk of hardware.
Oh, and you know what else? I stuck the Peach disk into my old laptop, the one that the computer guy said was only good for a paperweight? And it runs like a dream. The Windows OSI crashed, and that’s why it wouldn’t boot. Boots just fine into Peach. Ha!
So if you want to know anything about Linux — AN-NY-THING — ask Jack Wallen. He writes articles for Linux Today, and he’s way nice, even though he does write about zombies. Not on Linux Today, of course. Although Peach definitely brought that laptop back from the dead.
A WRITING PROMPT FOR YOU: A thing that a character thought would never work again begins to work.

September 19, 2014 at 7:32amI’m going to resist relating zombies and Linux / Unix – whatever works is a good solution. Good luck, and I hope you can eventually recover anything you might have lost.

I truly, deeply hate computers sometimes.
Other times, I’m just so darn happy I don’t have to use a typewriter anymore that I could weep.
If that isn’t love-hate, I don’t know what it is.
