What To Do #1LinerWeds

I hope I’m recovered from my working weekend at Imaginarium. Way fun, but way work, so way tired. Much peopling happened.

So before the weekend, I went to Janie Day with her brother and one of her friends. Brother told me about a neighbor from across the street who came over and complained that the feral cats who hang around Jane’s house (now the brother’s house) came over, “crapping in my bushes.” Wanted to know what the brother was going to do about these feral cats going where they wanted and doing what they wanted.

So Janie’s brother considered his options and, after due deliberation, offered this:

Well, I can have a talk with them.

I’ll let you know if that works.

Isn’t kitty poop good fertilizer? I would think the neighbor would be happy for his bushes.

The neighbors across the street had about 25-30 feral cats hanging around their yard. I tried everything with them and with our town animal control officer, First Selectman, Police, etc.

I went all the way to the person in our state government who’s in charge of (sort of) all the Animal Control officers. When that person said he wouldn’t help me, I asked for the correct spelling of his name. He asked why. I said. “there are two daycare houses on this street. When one of those cats bites one of those kids and they are worried about rabies, I want to get your name right when the Journal Inquirer asks me what I know about the situation” – The JI is the muckraker regional paper.

He sent the Board of Health. After that visit, the local Animal Control Officer trapped and removed the cats.

Oh, the poor kitties! So you didn’t solve the problem, you eliminated the innocent. You were right about the danger to the children, though, and it sounds like there was no other option. That was an all-around bad situation. Jane and her brother have worked with Ally Cat Allies to vaccinate and spay/neuter all the strays that hang around their yard, so their population fluctuates, but doesn’t swell, because they have no kittens.

Actually, the cats were removed to a farm that was known for always having cats to be adopted (it’s where we got MiMi and MuMu). They were spayed/neutered and sheltered there. But yes, the best par of that farm is the fact that it ain’t walking distance from our house.

Maybe Janie’s brother’s neighbor needs to open her heart and adopt said feral kitties and train them to properly use litter boxes.

You know what’s going to happen: they’re going to look at you with that adorable “head cocked at 45 degrees as if they’re listening,” then do whatever the hell they want.

I’ll have to ask him how that worked out. I was too busy making a note of the one-liner to hear the outcome. lol
