Here’s the excerpt I said I would post today. I read it to the cats, and they rolled on the floor laughing. I don’t think it’s that funny, but, then, I’m not a cat.
Devona and Trenel
excerpt from the SAGE trilogy
by Marian Allen
Devona brought her candle half-way down the stairs. “What is it? What’s happened?”
“This cursed cat of Elsie’s bit me!”
“Did you try to pet him?”
“No! I should hope I know better than that! I was watching him play with a mouse and he ran over and bit me!”
“He was just over-excited, poor thing.” Devona, sounded, from her tone, as if she hoped Trenel had gotten in a good one, while he was at it.
“Poor thing? Poor cat, poor mouse, poor everybody but me!”
“Well, come here and let’s look at the wound. I’ll clean it and put a poultice on it and bind it up. Poor Darcy.” The term sounded weary, and full of pity and resignation.
