First, I invite you to come see me at Karen’s Book Barn in LaGrange, Kentucky this Saturday. I’ll be there with Per Bastet Publications
shooting the breeze selling and signing books.
I just love it when I find a new blog, especially when I also find new reading material. Thanks for visiting and commenting, Jeff Chapman, and thanks for the free books! You’re a straaaaaaaaange man, Jeff. I like that in a person.
Somebody somewhere sent me to this Smithsonian article. It’s about Native Americans, Africans, African-Americans, and indentured servants who took their own freedom from White domination by making communities for themselves in the Great Dismal Swamp. Apparently, they did this in other swamps, but this article was about the Great Dismal. The self-emancipation was called marronage, and the people were called maroons. Merriam-Webster says the word maroon is “probably from French maron, marron feral, fugitive, modification of American Spanish cimarrón wild, savage. First Known Use: 1666”. How cool is that?
Some people hate Twitter, but I’ve met some fine folks there, and found some great publishers. Lee & Low, for instance. They specialize in young people’s books “About everyone, for everyone.” Their Tu imprint sounds like a collection I could get totally lost in. An Apache Steampunk thriller? Oh, I am SO IN!
Everybody needs some pretty-pretty in their lives, and it’s hard to beat Skywatch Friday. Go over and bask in beautiful photos of the sky from all around the world.
I loves me some quick and easy recipes, and Simply Recipes fills that bill. They also categorize by gluten-free, vegan, vegetarian, but my favorite, of course: quick and easy!
While you’re at it, lose the weekend browsing around Zerg’s Food and Drink section. Of course, you’ll have to order out. Who has time to cook, with so many recipes to read?
A WRITING PROMPT FOR YOU: Write about someone who lives in the wild.
