Martin Cavannagh of Reedsy sent me a link to a new feature on the site, and I’ll tell you what: It’s addictive! Talk about writing prompts!
The new feature is Book Title Generator. Click on a genre (or on Any), and the site generates a random title. So maybe the title it generates is wildly inappropriate for the book you need a title for. (Yes, I know I ended the sentence with a preposition, but there’s no earthly reason not TO.
HOWEVER, you get a title like this one:
CRIME OF THE QUIET TAX COLLECTOR
(Actual generated title!)
You could totally write a story with that as a prompt!
Make it so, Number One!
A PROMPT FROM ME (AND REEDSY) TO YOU: Visit the Book Title Generator, generate a title, and sketch out a three-sentence storyline based on it. Write the story, if you want to.

July 28, 2018 at 1:57amSteffie reviewed the file carefully.
115 local people, with seemingly nothing in common, all dead in weird ways.
No clues.
It made no sense.
So, she called Pete in. As usual, he was grumbling about taxes…. And was useless.
The light went on in Steffie’s Blonde head.
She checked with the tax department. |
All these people were behind.
Obviously a disgruntled IRS agent.
She turned the file back over to the FBI, and went out to supper with Marian.
There ya go kid. All you need to do is fill in those pesky details. The stuff I am lousy at.
Why, it writes itself! (Technically this is Spam, but we will conveniently ignore that!)
